Dr. Phyllis Cook Performs Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique in Fayetteville, North Carolina
Gum recession breakthrough treatment also known as Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ and Lunchtime Gum Lift™
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST®), invented and patented by John Chao, D.D.S., is a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for treating gum recession.
This procedure is performed by making a small hole with a needle in the gum tissue. Using specially designed instruments, the gum tissue is loosened and guided over the receded part of the tooth. Since there is no incision or suturing, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling and bleeding). Most patients also are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement.

Meet Phyllis Cook, DDS, MPH
Certified Pinhole Surgical Technique Periodontist Fayetteville
Dr. Phyllis Cook was born in Kokomo, Indiana and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from Palm Beach Junior College in 1975 with an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene. In 1985, Dr. Cook moved to North Carolina where her love for dentistry and her drive as a professional motivated her to pursue a career in Periodontology.
Dr. Cook completed her pre-dental curriculum at UNC Charlotte in May of 1992 and then went on to the UNC School of Dentistry where she excelled in her studies and graduated in May 1996. After graduation, she then continued her pursuit by completing her periodontal residency and obtaining her Master’s in Public Health at UNC in May of 1999.
After graduation, Dr. Cook opened a practice in Wilmington, NC. In 2014, she felt as though it was time to “cut back”, and even though she sold her practice in Wilmington, she continued working there a few days a month.
In September 2015, Dr. Cook says she was “directed by the Lord” to open a new periodontal practice in Fayetteville, NC. Dr. Cook is grateful to be in Fayetteville and works full-time, yet at a calmer pace, which provides individualized care for periodontal disease, gingival recession, and replacement of missing teeth with implants. Dr. Cook surrounds herself with team members that compliment her in ideal care for her patients.
Dr. Cook is an active adjunctive professor at the UNC School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics. In 2005, the Membership to the elite International Team for Implantology (ITI) was awarded Dr. Cook, and she was honored to become a Fellow in the ITI in April 2008. November 2005 marks the date that Dr. Cook became board certified as a Diplomate to the American Board of Periodontology. In September 2011, she became certified in LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) Surgery, a less aggressive, scalpel free, suture free, procedure that allows for bone regeneration around teeth with periodontal bone loss. Most recently, in October of 2017 Dr. Cook achieved certification as a Pinhole Clinician which is a scalpel and suture free gum rejuvenation surgery that treats gum recession.
Dr. Cook is the founder and member of a Spear Study Club in Fayetteville started in September of 2017. This club represents “common knowledge will help us achieve common goals for the best patient care”.
